Colorado Balloon Classic 2011

This has to be one of my favorite events here in Colorado Springs. Every year I look forward to this Labor Day weekend that draws hundreds of people to Memorial Park. For those of you who don't know, the Balloon Classic is a hot air balloon festival where you get to experience dozens of hot air balloons take to the morning sky simultaneously. In the evenings, they have a "Balloon Glo" where pilots ignite the burners and light up the park. This annual event gives everyone a chance to see the balloons up close, talk to the crews, and enjoy the concessions and entertainment.

Once again, this year was a success. Although waking up before the sunrise is not always easy for me, it was definitely worth it to see the launch. I met up with Kristof on Monday morning for his first ballooning experience and spent the evening Glo shooting with Steve and David. It was great seeing all of you there!

On a more personal note, I think it is interesting to see how much my photography style has changed. Since I have been attending and shooting this event for the last five years it is easy for me to see how differently I approach things. I feel like each year I focus less and less on the actual event and more on the details that most would overlook. Should I still be living in Colorado five years from now, it should be interesting to see how I go about capturing this unique tradition once again.
